Soil Testing at Moncus Park

We are excited to have the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service soil science team and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Delta Urban Soils Laboratory research students, guided by Dr. Anna Paltseva, to take soil samples at Moncus Park!

Moncus Park has a century of history, including agriculture, dairy farming, and an equestrian center. More recently, our Phase I of construction to create the park you see today included land disturbance in some areas and intentional actions to improve soil quality in others.

Knowing the content and condition of our soils helps us make informed decisions about the management of our land and the health of things that grow on it. If you want to learn more about soil testing or find out how to send soil samples for testing from your own yard, you can visit Dr. Paltseva’s laboratory site at: https://geos.louisiana.edu/soils-lab.
