Hours of Operation

The Park is open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. All unimproved & unlit areas are open from sunrise to sunset. The Play Area is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Moncus Park is open seven days a week.


Park Amenities


This park was created for the enjoyment of the people of Acadiana and all its visitors and guests. To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all, please respect the rights of others and follow all park rules, signs, and instructions. In addition, all applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and ordinances also apply.

1. In case of emergency, call 9-1-1. 

2. Park hours are 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.  All unimproved & unlit areas are open from sunrise to sunset.

3. Use the park at your own risk.

4. Keep Moncus Park clean!  Dispose of your trash & recyclables in the appropriate receptacles around the park. 

5. Dogs are welcome in the park and must remain on their leash at all times, except in the enclosed, off-leash, permitted dog park.  Pet owners are required to pick up after their pets.

6. Bikes, skates, scooters, and skateboards are allowed on concrete paths only.  

7. Motorized vehicles, with the exception of wheelchairs, are prohibited.

8. Informal sports are allowed (excluding the use of cleats and equipment).  Golfing activities are prohibited.  All other organized sports are not allowed without prior approval.

9. Smoking of any kind is prohibited (including all smoking tobacco, e-cigarettes, and vaporizers).

10.  Glass containers are prohibited.

11. No open flames, including barbeque pits and gas grills/boilers, without prior approval.

12. The use of firearms and other noisemaking devices is prohibited.

13. Flowers, trees, plants, and park furniture & fixtures shall not be removed, disturbed, or destroyed.

14. Wildlife (including birds, reptiles, and amphibians) shall not be hunted, trapped, molested, destroyed, or fed.

15. Be respectful of other park guests and neighbors; control your noise level.  

16. Park areas may require closures from time to time. Use of closed areas of the park may be considered trespassing or potential destruction of park property.

17. Vending and commercial activities require prior approval.

18. Certain areas of the park are available for private rental or special events.  Please visit for more information.

19. Balloon releases are prohibited in the Park due to their environmental hazards.

20. Park only in designated areas.

21. The annual photography permit is mandatory for any commercial enterprise or anyone who is profiting from photography on Moncus Park property. See below to learn more.



Guests can park in Moncus Park's paved lot off Johnston Street. Handicap parking and ADA-accessible pathways are available. Paid parking is coming late July to help support Park operations. Parking will be free for the first 30 minutes and $2 an hour per vehicle. Parking will be free on Mondays for all Park guests. Members will receive parking perks- more information coming soon. Paid parking directly supports the Park's operations and maintenance as well as the many free amenities, daily programs, and events the Park produces for the community.

Dog Park

The Giles Automotive Family Small Dog Park is located in Moncus Park, a 100-acre urban park in the heart of Lafayette and provides a safe and pleasant gathering place for humans and their canine companions to socialize, exercise, and meet people who share a common interest in dogs and animal welfare! Come out and fish! Our 4-acre lake is stocked with full size bass and brim and has a catch and release policy. Per Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries regulation, if you’re age 16 or older, you must have a Basic Fishing License to fish recreationally in Louisiana waters. Learn more by visiting

Commercial Photography and Videography

Permits are required for all commercial filming and photography in the Park. A Photography Permit must be visible while performing photography business on Park grounds. Permits ensure that professional photographers adhere to our rules and regulations and are individually responsible for understanding the importance of maintaining the beauty of the Park while performing their work on Park grounds. Farmers & Artisans Market
