November Programs & Events at Moncus Park

Gumbo weather is finally here, and while we can’t make any for you, we sure can help you work up an appetite. This October we have plenty of events for the whole family, or group activities if you want to meet new people and try new things. From yoga to botany, we have something for everyone! Food Truck Fridays won’t be going anywhere either so make sure to make it there if you get the chance! Take advantage of this beautiful season and come explore Moncus Park and all it has to offer.

Featured Events

Pure Barre Pop-Up Class

  • Wednesday October 12 at 6:00 pm

Pure Barre is hosting a 40-minute combination yoga, Pilates, and ballet class, otherwise known as the Pure Barre Classic Express Class and Pure Empower Express Class. Make sure to show up ten minutes early in comfortable workout gear.

Lourdes Fitness Center Exercise Classes at the First Horizon Amphitheater

  • Monday, October 3, 10, 17, and 24 at 6:00 pm

This is the perfect time of year to spend time outside, preferably exercising to prepare your body for the holidays. Lourdes Fitness Center is providing health and fitness training along with recommendations on implementing healthy habits into your life. Linda Peters, Community Health Outreach Coordinator, will have a table with information on healthy lifestyle habits, diabetes prevention and cardiac/heart health tips.

Food Truck Fridays underneath the Farmers Market Oaks

  • Every Friday from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm

Every Friday local vendors come to Moncus Park to serve up their delicious food in our gorgeous atmosphere. Enjoy some of the best food Lafayette has to offer on our picnic benches or find a quiet hideaway in our open spaces.

Arts and Culture

Community Drum Circle at the First Horizon Amphitheater

  • Thursday, October 6 at 6:00 pm

LeeAnn Broussard is sharing her 20+ years of drum experience with the community. This class will teach musicians the origin of the drum circle and the culture surrounding it. Newcomers and the musically challenged are welcome to attend and learn in a group setting.

Children’s Storytime with the Lafayette Public Library at the Play Area

  • Wednesday, October 5 and 26 at 11:00 am

The Lafayette Public Library’s GoGo Biblio Bookmobile is making its appearance at Moncus Park to provide books, movies, crafts, and Storytime to kids at the play area. Storytime begins at noon for all the parents and children that want to attend!

Environmental Education

Garden Talks at Moncus Park in the First Horizon Amphitheater

  • Thursday, October 20 at 6:00 pm

An introduction to medicinal plants and their uses will be held by Master Gardener MaryAnn Armbruster, Ph.D. If you have any love for plants, we encourage you to come check this one out as it may give you some ideas!

Community Partners LA Cares: How Gardening is Good for your Health

  • Thursday, October 20 at 6:00 pm

Gardens do more than add curb appeal and grow your DIY skills. Gardening can improve your health, too, by exposing you to environments and activities that help your mind and body function better! Learn more by attending this program hosted by Community Partners LA Cares.

Health and Wellness

Youth Gymnastics on the Festival Lawn

  • Wednesday, October 12 at 9:00 am

This gymnastics program hosted by The Little Gym of Lafayette is for children four months to 12 years old. This event will get children moving their bodies and improving their minds through play and exercise.

Yoga in the Park on the Festival Lawn

  • Wednesday, October 19 at 6:00 pm

The Space Yoga Studio recommends you bring a mat and comfortable clothing but leave your worries behind. Yoga is a great activity to relax and get the blood flowing, so why not do it in a beautiful place in this gorgeous weather.

 

Autumn in the Oaks

To round out the month, Moncus Park is hosting Autumn in the Oaks, a Fall Festival with free family fun is coming on October 29th. Activities such as hayrides and trick or treating will be accompanied by a pumpkin patch and maze for the kids. Plenty of family activities will last from 5 to 8 pm. We cannot thank local businesses enough for helping us engage with our wonderful community and thank you for being a part of this project and being a part of the community we here at Moncus Park love so much!
