MONCUS PARK BREAKS GROUND ON BEST FRIENDS BARK PARK: A HAVEN FOR LARGE DOGS

Lafayette, LA, September 6, 2023–

Moncus Park is thrilled to announce the groundbreaking of the highly-anticipated Best Friends Bark Park, a dedicated haven designed exclusively for large dogs. This innovative addition to the cherished community greenspace marks a significant milestone in Moncus Park’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the quality of life for both residents and their furry companions in Acadiana.

Spanning an impressive 34,500 square feet, Best Friends Bark Park offers an expansive off-leash play space for dogs to run and socialize. Within this area, an elevated 1,000 square-foot overlook provides panoramic views of the sprawling landscape, creating a haven where families can observe delightful interactions of furry friends.

Additionally, the new dog park will feature landscaping, two water fountains complete with dog bowls, waste receptacles equipped with dog waste bags, and a double-gated entry and exit system, designed to guarantee safety and uninterrupted access.

Best Friends Bark Park is made possible through funds raised from Moncus Park’s 2021 SOLA Giving Day Campaign, a substantial gift from friends and family of Patrick Reische Gray, and a generous contribution from Pinhook Foundation, whose dedication to animals and community shine through within this valuable addition to Moncus Park.

“Our tails are wagging with excitement to bring this large dog playground to Moncus Park,” said Emily Hamner, executive director of Pinhook Foundation.

Best Friends Bark Park for large dogs is the second dog park following the Giles Automotive Family Small Dog Park, which opened in January of 2022. To enjoy the off-leash dog parks, an annual $13 permit is required to ensure the safety of all dogs and their owners. To purchase your dog’s permit visit www.moncuspark.org/dogpark. Permits are only required for the off-leash dog parks. Leashed dogs are welcome throughout Moncus Park as per City Ordinance Sec. 10-121.
