Moncus Park Receives Keep Louisiana Beautiful Greener Grounds Grant

Lafayette, LA – Moncus Park is delighted to announce its selection as a recipient of the Greener Grounds Grant from Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB), a significant achievement in our commitment to sustainability and liter prevention for the well-loved Christmas in the Park event taking place from December 12th to December 14th. This $5,000 grant represents our ongoing efforts in environmental responsibility, enabling us to develop innovative waste management and reduction strategies. With this funding, Moncus Park is ensuring that our Christmas in the Park event is not only a festive and joyous occasion but also an environmentally conscious one.

Susan Russell, KLB’s Executive Director, emphasizes that the Greener Grounds initiative is more than a mere supply grant. It aims to enhance liter prevention and waste management at major outdoor events in Louisiana, including fairs, festivals, parades, and concerts.

“Louisiana’s rich calendar of over 400 annual events, attracting both locals and tourists, is a celebration of our unique food, music, history, and culture. However, these gatherings often lead to avoidable liter problems. We must ensure that the waste generated does not jeopardize our environment. Effective waste management not only improves the event experience but also prevents litter from clogging storm drains and polluting our waterways, a crucial step in protecting our coastline, wildlife, and water quality,” Russell explains.

Funded by the State of Louisiana and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, the Greener Grounds Grant program has awarded 16 grants totaling over $105,300 to eligible Louisiana non-profits, municipalities, and parishes organizing large-scale events.
