Glass Recycling with BackYard Sapphire

In July, a dedicated team from Moncus Park had the opportunity to visit Backyard Sapphire, our local glass recycling partner, to see firsthand the incredible journey of glass once it leaves our park. This visit was part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability and reducing our environmental footprint.

At Moncus Park, we host numerous special events throughout the year, which unfortunately can generate significant amounts of waste. To address this, we’ve partnered with Backyard Sapphire to ensure that glass waste is not only diverted from landfills but also transformed into useful products. Thanks to their innovative recycling service, glass collected from our events is repurposed into two main products: sand for the Lafayette Consolidated Government’s (LCG) community sandbag program and beautiful glass mulch, which can be used in consumer gardens, yards, or potted plants.

This initiative not only helps us keep the park and our community cleaner but also supports local sustainability efforts by providing eco-friendly alternatives for everyday needs. The glass mulch, in particular, is a fantastic way to add a unique aesthetic touch to any garden while being environmentally responsible.

We are thrilled to see the tangible impacts of our recycling efforts and are grateful for the services provided by Backyard Sapphire. By participating in glass recycling, we’re not just keeping waste out of the landfill; we’re also contributing to a cycle of reuse that benefits our community and the environment in multiple ways.
