Traditional Flat Weave Demonstration
Date: April 20
Time: 5:30–6:30 PM
Location: Blakewood Oaks
This program at Moncus Park is supported by the MJ Sindler Family Fund for Culture & Media.
Join Suzanne Chaillot of the Acadiana Fibershed for a live demonstration of traditional Acadian flat weave techniques. Suzanne will be weaving with heirloom Acadian Brown Cotton, known as Cotton Jaune, a fiber deeply rooted in the region’s agricultural and cultural history.
A fifth-generation Acadian, Suzanne has been weaving since childhood after receiving her first loom at age twelve. During the demonstration, she will share the artistry, heritage, and stories behind this traditional craft while weaving.
Guests are invited to stop by, observe the process, and learn about the role of fiber traditions in Acadiana’s cultural landscape.
